Pre-production

Pre-production segments:

Finance:
This is an important part of the video process
  • Think about how we are going to get the money in (sponsorships, adverts etc)
  • how we are going to spend the money efficiently (cast, crew, transport, equipment, legal costs , wardrobe etc)
Time scale
  • MUST MEET DEADLINES!
  • Think about availability of cast, crew and equipment.
  • individually tested , so its not only about group preformance.
  • leave time for filming, editing and looking for best footage.
Personnel
  • Sourcing the right personnel for each job. Jobs include: using cameras, storing data, editing,
  • make sure the have the right skills for the task. e.g previous experience.
  • make sure your group is the right size for the job. Enough people for each job to run smoothly.
Facilities.
  • For any creative media production.
  • Think about do you have enough facilities for each part of the filming process?
  • Chroma key is an example found in media rooms. Or music studios for editing and recording sound.
Materials.
  • Is first made of raw material, things that will make into your shoot.
  • Test shoots often help give an idea on what may or may not be used later.
  • Found footage can be used but copyright needs to be thought about.
Locations
  • Check out locations in preproduction stage.
  • Maximise time used in locations for recording
  • be aware of health and safety breach.
  • Secure permission for locations if needed
  • Location reconnaissance or recce allows to visit the location and get ideas of what might be included for the final product.
Copyright

  • Copyright is ok for us because it can be used as a educational.
  • record it as it were real.
  • All types of media can be used, source permission.
  • As using music students music we need to make contact for them to sign for our permission. write to them and ask for permission. Find more info on the Intellectual property website. (www.ipo.gov.uk)
Codes of practice and regulation.
  • One of the reasons that media companies undertake pre-production work is to that they are planing to produce adheres to the relevant codes of practice, laws and regualtions that govern and control their industry.

Public liability:
  • Be careful of risks to members of the public when recording with people around.(Have this because of college be pretend you would be starting on our own)
Film London website
  • visit and find out what production companies have to do to film anywhere in London.

Contains very important information.

Regulatory bodies trade unions and trade associations.
Think about age ratings and whether or not its offence.
What regulatory body will cover you.
Think about the legal sides of things. Alcohol, drugs etc.

Story board- use for panning filming.

Take into consideration:
All legal sides must be met
Even though we are at college and have everything ready think about what we would have to do if we were an out side company.
